Fenty Beauty Review

So let’s face it, RiRi has taken the Social Media Beauty industry by storm when she released her beauty line Fenty Beauty last week.

To be honest, I wasn’t really interested in her line until I saw her launch all over social media, this is when I started to look into her makeup line. Even then I looked at it as ‘just another makeup line by an established celeb’. However the brand kept popping up all over my feed by people who I recognised as good bloggers, so obviously, I did some reading which lead me to youtube reviews so I could understand her foundation better. To be honest I was sold by my second youtube video but I continued to watch another 20. It looked great and sounded great, so off I went to the Harvey Nichols website and chose my shade (which was really hard to do by the way). I paid extra for postage but I didn’t mind at all for this product.

The main focus of this blog is on ‘skin’ the primer and foundation are what I knew I just needed to get from her beauty range.

Product Description

FOUNDATION

FENTY BEAUTY figured out that it takes the right balance of tone and texture to make foundation work on every skin type. The brand obsessed over custom pigment levels to capture your truest tones with a soft matte finish that’s just right – not too matte and not too shiny. The result? A comfortable long-wear formula that lets skin look like skin. Made for all women to love.

The ultimate photo filter in foundation form. Born in 40 boundary-breaking shades, Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation gives skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free finish that easily builds from medium to full coverage. The oil-free formula is made with climate-adaptive technology that’s humidity resistant, sweatproof and won’t clog pores, so that wherever you are, it’s going to work on your skin. Best of all, this long-wearing, light-as-air texture is undetectable on skin – so you always look like you.

PRIMER

Nothing is sexier than touch-worthy skin; Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer is the first step to getting there. This oil-free primer smooths away the look of pores, visibly evens skin tone and texture, and instantly absorbs shine without feeling dry or chalky. That means smoother foundation application and longer makeup wear.

Unlike a basic mattifying primer, Pro Filt’r’s cushiony, touch-me-now texture mattifies skin with the lightest-possible feel, for a full-on sensorial experience. And the universal invisipink formula? It’s not just pretty – it creates a filter-like blurring effect and melts instantly into all skin tones without a trace. Pro Filt’r works all day to help makeup last longer, feeling lightweight and comfortable, so you don’t have to worry about your skin – and you’ll be ready for anything.

Packaging

Both the foundation and primer comes in a frosted glass with a pump and a plastic lid. I love the glass feel, its heavy and feels like a luxury product. I love that they have a pump because it’s more hygienic and also less messy.

Pro Filt’r Primer

This primer is literally a filter in a bottle. This primer nourishes the skin and smoothes out your pores. It feels more like a moisturizer than a primer and gets slightly tacky once it sets on the skin. It is not uncomfortable at all so you are also able to wear this primer on its own without makeup, it gives a beautiful matte finish to the face. I am currently in love with this primer and I am loving it for no makeup days. It is suitable for all skin types.

Pro Filt’r Foundation

Coverage

This is a medium to full coverage foundation. I personally don’t like to use any concealers with my foundation unless I am using it for highlighting. however not many foundations can do that, this can. This foundation is great for layering it up without looking caked, even with a thin layer it looks really good. This foundation is amazing for a filtered skin finish Great for shine control lasts over 10hours.

This is because on its own it covers blemishes, scars and most pigmentation. If you prefer a heavier look you can achieve it by using a foundation brush, or for the natural look, you can use a beauty blender. This foundation is great for layering it up as you want without looking caked. It is super lightweight as it claims to be “Light as air” which I agree with.

Application

This foundation applies smoothly but you have to work in sections. This is because the formula is fast drying which means it begins to set soon after it is on the skin. Although this is not a problem it can make it harder to blend if it is left on the skin for a while so do bear this in mind when applying this foundation. You do not have to wear concealer with this unless you want the ultimate high coverage, then can use concealer to spot conceal and to brighten the under eyes.  You also do not need to set this with a powder which to me is insane because I never leave my makeup without setting it, because it just doesn’t stay in place.

I have found that the best application for this foundation is with a stippling brush, the foundation smoothes out beautifully on the skin. I have noticed when using a stippling brush it has higher coverage and higher shine control than when used with any other brush or beauty blender. Personally, I always use a beauty blender for my foundation

This foundation is available in 40 different shades which is amazing however it is confusing when trying to match your exact shade. There is a misconception about this foundation oxidizing, although that is not true this foundation does dry a shade darker than when first applied so do check your shade against the foundation when it is completely dry.

Finish

This does have a soft matte finish as it claims, this looks super natural on the skin for all skin types. It gives that matte finish without sucking the life out of your skin, which most matte foundations do. It literally is a filter in a bottle.

Lasting power

This foundation holds up well for up to 12 hours. I have never used any setting sprays with this as I have never needed to. It also does not break up on your face when on the skin like most foundations. I have shockingly have not needed to set this with any powders, that really blew me away. Being an oily skinned girl shine control has always been a problem, I have not need blot or powder my face once applying the foundation, I have gone 15 hours without touching up and it still looked great. However, I would recommend blotting after 8 hours if you are oily like me. It works great on combination skin and for dry skin, you will need to moisturize well before using it.

Verdict

FOUNDATION

Highly recommended for oily skin and combination skin for the foundation. I would also recommend this to all skin types provided the skin is hydrated well with moisturizer. For £26 for 32ml, it really is worth it considering most high-end foundations are over £30 for 30ml.

PRIMER

I absolutely love this primer, I have been wearing it for both makeup and non-makeup days. It is suitable for all skin types, it’s a thumbs up for me.

This is now my go-to foundation, but will this become my holy grail?

Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer

I absolutely love this lip gloss even though I am not a gloss fan. It is lightweight, non-sticky and smells so good, it reminds me of a watermelon/sweet lip balm. It is a great colour that would suit any skin shade. The applicator is nice a big so it makes it quick and easy to apply.

The Fenty Beauty range is available in the UK at Harvey Nichols or Sephora worldwide.
